The Principal's Message
Dear Whaley Family,
Every new school year gives us all a chance at a new beginning, to start fresh, full of hope and dreams. We all can continue the successful habits and routines, and can change those that hindered our success. A new school year always brings some changes, and this year will be no exception. We are improving our district learning goals, and remodeling our school office. Both will bring us into the 21st century.
The new construction you see in progress will give our school a great new look. Built in 1965, our old office definitely no longer serves our larger size and requirements for safety and technology. The new office will help to secure the entry into the campus, and give more room for parents to conduct school business. The building will be energy efficient and be able to handle all the new technologies that our newer schools enjoy. The project will be ready in time for the New Year.
As always, I am looking forward to leading Whaley, continuing the success for which it is so well known. Whether your child is continuing at Whaley or just starting out, I welcome him/her to a year of challenges, adventures, experiences, and learning. This year I plan to work with the Whaley staff and support them as they plan rigorous reading and math programs to ensure your child receives the highest quality education.
Your child will have extended learning opportunities through our after school academic programs and our daily after-school program which we have thanks to the 21st Century grant in partnership with the YMCA. In addition, we have added quite a bit of technology, with two and a half computer labs, three iPad carts, and one laptop cart. We want our children ready for the careers of the 21st century.
We value your opinions and suggestions to make Whaley a better school. I welcome you to come to the school and meet with me. I look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions. In addition, we have a vibrant, new PTA group that is eager to bring great opportunities for our children. You will get weekly newsletters from me highlighting any important O.B. Whaley information. This will always be printed on blue paper and will go home each Friday.
Together I know we can make this a great year. We have a terrific teaching staff at Whaley, but they need your support too. Please continue to read all of the communications sent home by the office and your child’s teacher. Also, do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns or if you’d like to volunteer your time.
Parents + Teachers + Students + Working Together = A Successful School Year!
